"One college to write them all, one Board to find them, one magazine to print them all and in the papers bind them."
If you aren't from JCE, the first thing you need to know is that this place is a madhouse. But as is often the case, crazy people usually have the most sensible and beautiful things to say. Our college magazine, Jayzine, is an effort to encapsulate the musings and opinions of these free souls and spread what they have to say to... well, whoever's reading it. Art and articles are the heart and soul of the magazine, presented in the English, Kannada and Art sections. *Major Cliché Alert* A college magazine is only as good as its college. Also, do flip through the magazine to know more about JCE's success and involvement in academics, sports tournaments and cultural fests throughout the globe.
If you’re looking for the literary and creative highlight of the year at SJCE, or indeed at Mysore, look no further than || shabd ||!
|| shabd || is an annual literary fest conducted by and held at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Mysore, which makes it the only exclusive literary fest to be offered by a technical college in Karnataka. It is organized by the Editorial Board of SJCE and extends an opportunity to every student to showcase both their scholarly and artistic skills. Usually held in the month of February, || shabd || draws a massive and enthusiastic crowd who witness and compete in an extensive array of events.
The events themselves comprehensively test the participants in areas of art, innovation and literary proficiency. They are consolidated into Formal and Informal fields.
Formal events test the intellectual and creative skills of the competitors. They include debate, quiz, creative writing and poetry writing, all which are conducted in both Kannada and English. The painting and sketching competition is also classed as Formal.
Informal events are those in which wit and inventiveness are prized. These events are fun to witness and even more entertaining to be a part of. They encompass Jest-a-Minute (JAM), Mad-Ads, Pictionary, Spelling Bee, Jumble the Good Word and Photography, to name a few.
The Editorial Board is the fiery crucible from whence the writings to awe them all and the activities to wow them all are forged meticulously.
Here, under the watchful eyes of Sir Edit-A-Lot, the Editors work round the clock on two of the most important tasks on his bucket list. One, a colorful canvas showcasing the articles, poetry, art and achievements from various precincts of SJCE - Jayzine. Two, a festival of celebrating literature and putting literary and art enthusiasts on a pedestal worthy of praise; a celebration that ties the whole of SJCE together - || shabd ||. The Editorial Board is not just a mere group of students, it's a family of people who choose to spend time together and participate in making literature more fun, accessible to all and ... (Well, somethings are better left unfinished)
